TEN YEARS IN … and a refresh

i received an email from my hosting provider last month congratulating me for ten years of being here at fairybookmother.net, and it sent me into a small spiral. how has it been ten years of this particular format? it doesn’t feel like it was ten years ago that i was trying out my hand at adjunct teaching, trying to forge a path through academia (hint: that didn’t work out) while also balancing this need to read and find/create community with other readers online. the bookish space online was really taking off when i started this blog in 2015, and catapulted with instagram in the following months and years. i’ve been blogging on and off in various formats online since livejournal and geocities, and the landscape of the internet has changed so much since the late 90s, and lately, i miss the simplicity of posting, of blog rings, reading others’ blogs (book-related or not), so maybe this is a small attempt to bring it back. if not just for me.

i’ve archived all of my blog posts up until this one. it’s time for a reboot, time to do some new things, time to have a refreshed foundation. you’ll still see book posts from me, along with other things here and there. not structured, no posting goals. all of my old reviews that were cross-posted will remain up on goodreads for the time being because i am simply too annoyed at the clunky interface to adjust anything there. i don’t remember the last time i logged into my netgalley account and i know i have unread arcs from 2016-2020 there (which might be a fun challenge for myself someday)… maybe one day i’ll hit that coveted 80% mark, maybe not?? i’ve made my peace with it.
